History
Built between 1860 and 1664 on the remains of a XVIIth Century farm which now forms the caretaker’s house the layout of the Château is inspired by the plan of a hunting lodge by Gabriel who was Louis XVth architect. This architecture with its regular façade topped by a central fronton and flanked by two towers and with a formal decorative French garden featuring an embroidery of boxwood hedges is typical of the XVIIIth Century ‘Montpelliéran folies’ which were a phenomenon that was almost unique in the Beziers area. They were normally built by successful businessmen or by the emerging class of hereditary nobles who held high state office. Frequently they were built by magistrates for example and they all followed the principle of very elegant buildings graced with beautiful gardens.
